A Baltimore socialite, Bonaparte was the daughter of a city merchant and the first wife of Jérome Bonaparte, Napoleon's youngest brother, whom she first met in 1803. The film will follow her rise in America's social scene on the strength of her celebrity and wit during Thomas Jefferson's presidency.
Described as a US-set "Bridgerton" or "The Great", the biopic is directed by Adam Leon ("Tramps", "Gimme the Loot") from a script by Gabriel Neustadt.
Weaving can next be seen in the upcoming miniseries "Nine Perfect Strangers" based on Liane Moriarty's novel, and the G.I. Joe spin-off "Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins", which is set to be released on October 22nd.
