Allison Janney Picture
Academy Award winner Allison Janney ("I, Tonya") has signed on to lead the thriller "Lou" for J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. The film will be directed by Anna Foerster, whose resume includes helming episodes of "Outlander" and "Jessica Jones", as well as her feature film debut "Underworld: Blood Wars" starring Kate Beckinsale".

A tonal mix between "Thelma & Louise" and "Taken", the story follows a young woman and her hard-shelled, rule-breaking landlord, Lou (Janney), who team up to track down the former's child after the girl is kidnapped by the woman's estranged husband. Lou is able to help due to her impressive tracking abilities, and other uniquely useful skill sets. The script was written by "American Crime Story" producer/writer Maggie Cohn, with a revision by Jack Stanley ("Chronicle 2").

"Lou" was previously set up at Paramount, but is now in turnaround, with Bad Robot financing it as an indie film. Production is expected to begin Spring 2019. Abrams is producing with Braden Aftergood.

Janney has just finished work on "Bad Education" starring Hugh Jackman. She is also set to star in Tate Taylor's crime drama "Breaking News In Yuba County" opposite Laura Dern, and Jay Roach's untitled Roger Ailes Fox News movie.

Kate Beckinsale reprises the role of ass-kicking vampire Selene in the sequel "Underworld: Blood Wars", the fifth installment in the franchise, and apparently not Beckinsale's last as Len Wiseman has confirmed a sixth film is in development.

As the Vampire race faces extinction since the Lycans have increased in numbers and strength, Selene must find a way to save the very coven which banished her and hunted her down as a criminal.

Directed by Anna Foerster ("Outlander"), the film also stars Theo James, Lara Pulver, Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James, Tobias Menzies and Charles Dance.

Kate Beckinsale returns for Underworld 5
It's been three years since "Underworld: Awakening", the last installment in the supernatural franchise, but it looks like Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems are ready for a new sequel. Kate Beckinsale is officially on board to reprise the role of Selene and she will be joined by "Divergent" star Theo James, who made a brief appearance in Awakening.

The unofficial title is "Underworld: Next Generation" and it will supposedly be the last chapter in the series. The story will focus on a new, younger generation of vampires and werewolves, which I think could open up the possibility of a spinoff series in the future.

The sequel's script has been penned by Cory Goodman ("Priest"), and directorial duties will be handled by Anna Foerster, who has previously worked as director of photography for Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow" and "White House Down".
