It's been a difficult wait, but 20th Century Fox has finally released the first trailer for
Ridley Scott's
"Alien: Covenant", the upcoming installment in the
"Alien" franchise, and a follow-up to Scott's
"Prometheus".
The trailer is wonderfully mysterious and doesn't lay out the plot from start to finish like most other blockbuster trailers, but instead relies on atmosphere, a great choice of music, and a decent amount of gore to start with. The film chronicles the adventures of the colony ship Covenant's crew as they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise. The planet is, as it turns out, a much darker and dangerous place than any of them could have imagined.
It's not exactly explained, but the synopsis also mentions that the crew discover the "synthetic" David (
Michael Fassbender), a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition, but we'll have to wait and see how he got there, and where is the other survivor from the previous film, Elizabeth Shaw. We know for a fact Shaw will make an appearance, because
Noomi Rapace is confirmed to star in this film, but it could just be a flashback of sorts. And, yes, everyone's favorite xenomorph will be in this film, as confirmed by the final moments of the trailer.
The cast also includes
Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Callie Hernandez and
Guy Pearce.
"Alien: Covenant" will open in theaters on May 19th, 2017.
