cars-3-new-trailer-images-and-posters

Disney and Pixar have released a new trailer for the sequel "Cars 3", along with some new images and two official posters. As the trailer suggests, things are about to get pretty dark in this animated adventure. The gritty tone has already sparked a bit of a controversy, but I believe it has achieved its main goal, which is to revive interest in the series after the second film was generally considered the worst Pixar movie ever.

Directed by Brian Fee, the film features the voices of Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Cheech Marin, Larry the Cable Guy and Katherine Helmond

"Cars 3" opens in theaters on June 16th.

Disney's Planes

Disney has released a Sneak Peek clip for "Planes", which is a spin-off of Pixar's "Cars" franchise. As far as the visuals are involved, the film looks really cool, with some "Top Gun" flavor to spice up the adventure. Disney is flying solo on this project, as Pixar was not involved in the making of this spin-off. The voice cast includes Dane Cook, Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards (as a nod to "Top Gun"), Stacy Keach, Cedric the Entertainer, Teri Hatcher, Brad Garrett, Roger Craig Smith, Gabriel Iglesias, Carlos Alazraqui, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Cleese, Priyanka Chopra and Sinbad. "The Artist" won over a strong list of contenders : "The Descendants", "War Horse", "The Help", "The Ides of March", "Bridesmaids", "Hugo", "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", "Midnight in Paris" and "Moneyball".

Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin" won the award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures. The competition in this category featured mostly sequels/prequels (Pixar's "Cars 2", Dreamwork's "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "Puss in Boots"), except for Gore Verbinski's "Rango". 2011 was a good year for blockbusters, with some that were worse than expected and others that completely surpassed expectations. When it comes down to box-office results, it's all about the usual suspects and it was certainly a great year for sequels, especially those with very long titles, like "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2", "Transformers: Dark of the Moon", "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1", which performed very well (despite harsh reviews in some cases). Here's a look (after the jump) at the domestic and worldwide top 10 box-office hits for 2011 :

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1

Rejoice Potter fans, the first part of the two-movie finale to the Harry Potter series has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray. For you muggles out there, this is hardly a recommendable movie if you haven't been paying close attention to the other movies in the series. Also, some of its pacing falls victim to the prelude atmosphere, but expect some sound filmmaking. Meanwhile, the world prepares for Part 2. Also available as a Three-Disc Combo (Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy)

Country Strong

Cheesy soap-opera meets country music in "Country Strong" a movie destined to accomplish great things, yet marred by mediocrity. Starring Gwyneth Paltrow, the movie apparently attempted to cash in on the curiosity of listening to her perform her own songs, because, really, this pseudo-biopic has nothing else going for it. Especially after we've been treated to the real thing, e.g. "Walk the Line" (2005). Available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

The Incredibles (Four-Disc Combo)

The Pixar superhero animated feature receives the Blu-Ray treatment in a spectacular Four-Disc Combo (Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy). "The Incredibles" is one of the most successful superhero movies ever made and one of Pixar's biggest hits. Winner of two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature. I'm sure you might have heard of it.

Cars (Two-Disc Combo)

Yet another Pixar animated feature gets the Blu-Ray treatment, this time in a more restrained Two-Disc Combo Package (Blu-Ray/DVD). "Cars" is not really the best of the Pixar lot (as opposed to "The Incredibles"), but it does offer some solid fun and a stellar voice cast which includes the late Paul Newman. Nominated for two Academy Awards and awaiting the release of a sequel this year (June 24).
