"The Boys in the Band" is a dramedy directed by
Joe Mantello (
"Love! Valour! Compassion!") from a script by
Mart Crowley and
Ned Martel based on Crowley's play of the same name and the 1970 film directed by
William Friedkin.
The story follows a group of seven gay friends who reunite at a birthday party in 1968 New York. When the host's potentially closeted college roommate shows up uninvited, the evening is thrown into turmoil, and they are left reckoning with unspoken feelings and buried truths.
The cast features
Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells, Charlie Carver, Robin de Jesus and
Brian Hutchinson.
"The Boys in the Band" premiered on September 30, 2020 on Netflix.
