Shocked at her father’s disregard for human life, his daughter Susan (Ann Todd, The Paradine Case) walks out on him. Unperturbed, Ridgefield approaches another pilot with the challenge of piloting his test craft. The film received an Oscar nomination for its screenplay by Terence Rattigan (Separate Tables) and won the 1953 Oscar for Best Sound, Recording. R.I.P. Peter O'Toole (1932 - 2013)

Film legend Peter O'Toole has died today aged 81. O'Toole became a star with his role in David Lean's epic masterpiece "Lawrence of Arabia", a film that won 7 Academy Awards and earned the actor his first nomination in 1963. He would go on to be nominated seven more times between 1965 and 2006. In 2003 he received an Honorary Oscar, which he reluctantly accepted. He initially considered turning the award down and asking the Academy to hold off until he was 80: "I am still in the game and might win the bugger outright." With eight Academy Award nominations and no wins, he has more nominations without winning than any other actor. Last year, O'Toole announced his retirement from acting: "I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell." Peter O'Toole is survived by his two daughters, Pat and Kate O'Toole.
