The Argentinian drama
"Paulina" is a remake of the 1960 film
"La Patota" (Spanish for "gang"), and it stars
Dolores Fonzi as Paulina, a young woman who leaves her privileged life and career prospects behind to work as a teacher within an indigenous community of extreme poverty on Argentina's border with Paraguay and Brazil. One night, she is raped by a gang. In the aftermath of the shocking sexual assault, Paulina's unfathomable actions, and the limits of social justice, are examined unflinchingly.
Co-written and directed by
Santiago Mitre (
"El Estudiante"), the film also stars
Oscar MartÃnez, Esteban Lamothe, Cristian Salguero and
Andrea Quattrocchi. The film won the Critics Week and FIPRESCI prizes at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
"Paulina" opened in select theaters in the U.S. on June 23rd, 2017.
