"Timur" is an Indonesian action thriller directed by "The Raid" star Iko Uwais from a script written by Titien Wattimena ("The Red Point of Marriage") and Samuel Rustandi ("A+").
The film is based on the real-life 1996 military incident in Indonesia, the Mapendumayang hostage rescue operation, in which 11 scientific researchers, including a few Westerners, were taken hostage by the Free Papua Movement in a mountainous eastern part of the country. Uwais also stars as the special forces soldier who led the rescue operation.
The cast also includes Jimmy Kobogau, Aufa Assagaf, Yasamin Jasem, Fanny Ghassani, Kiki Narendra and Andri Mashadi. The film was released on digital platforms on April 7, 2026.
