"Parasite" (Gisaengchung) is a South Korean satirical thriller directed by Bong Joon-ho ("Snowpiercer") from a script he co-wrote alongside Han Jin-won. The film follows the Kim family, poor but street smart, and the Park family, which is the picture of aspirational wealth, as they become entangled in a symbiotic relationship that is soon threatened by a parasitic interloper who threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, prompting a savage battle for dominance.
The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam.
"Parasite" premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Palme d'Or, the first for a Korean film. The film was also the first to win with a unanimous vote since 2013's "Blue is the Warmest Colour". It is also widely regarded as a strong contender for the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards.
