New on DVD & Blu-Ray : HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN (2011)

Glorious exploitation movie, this hardcore action flick starring Rutger Hauer has no interest in taking it slow, or easy. It's a gory vigilante movie about a homeless man who lays down the law in a corrupt urban landscape filled with loads of unsavory characters for the angry hobo to mow down with his shotgun. Love it or hate it. If you enjoyed "Grindhouse", you'll love this one. Rutger Hauer's performance is his best in years. Also, don't take the violence warning lightly, it's really very violent. I'm talking buckets-o'-blood violent. Splatter cinema at its most gruesome.

A train rolls into its final stop. From one of the freight cars jumps a weary-eyed transient with dreams of a fresh start in a new town. Instead, he lands smack-dab in the middle of an urban hellhole, a place where the cops are crooked and the underprivileged masses are treated like insignificant animals. This is a city where crime reigns supreme, and the man pulling the strings is known only as "The Drake." Along with his two cold-blooded and sadistic sons, Ivan and Slick, he rules with an iron fist, and nobody dares fuck with The Drake, especially not some hobo. "Hobo with a Shotgun" was actually featured as a fake trailer in "Grindhouse". And just like "Machete", it turned up as a full-fledged feature film in pure grindhouse tradition. What else is there to say ? If you love this kind of exploitation flick (like I do), then you will absolutely love this one. Rutger Hauer is just awesome. It's really great he gets to work as a leading actor again, and it's not so far removed from all the B films he's done in the past. Fair warning for anyone who is not familiar with the genre : it's gruesomely violent, which is why it's going to be released Unrated.
