"Alpha" is an adventure film set in the last Ice Age, 20,000 years ago in Europe, and it follows a young man (Kodi Smit-McPhee) injured during a hunting expedition who tames a lone wolf abandoned by its pack. Together they endure countless dangers and overwhelming odds in order to find their way home before winter arrives.
The film is directed by Albert Hughes ("The Book of Eli") from a script by Daniele Sebastian Wiedenhaupt. Natassia Malthe, Leonor Varela, Jens Hultén, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson and Mercedes de la Zerda co-star.
"Alpha" opened in theaters on August 17, 2018 and received mostly positive reviews from critics. The film overperformed in its opening weekend at the box-office, grossing $10.5 million. It was expected to gross around $6-8 million. Still, the film's $51 million budget makes it a less impressive debut.
