The horror film
"It" is an adaptation of
Stephen King's
1986 novel of the same name, and the first of two installments (this one is titled
"It: Chapter One"). The plot follows seven bullied kids who live in Derry, Maine and band together to fight a malevolent entity that has been terrorizing their town for centuries.
The film is directed by
Andy Muschietti (
"Mama") from a script by
Gary Dauberman, which was rewritten from earlier drafts by
Chase Palmer and
Cary Fukunaga. The latter was also set to direct but dropped out due to creative differences and was replaced by Muschietti. The cast features
Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Nicholas Hamilton, Owen Teague and
Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise.
"It" opened in theaters on September 8th, 2017 and received mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised both its ability to scare and its strong emotional core. The film was also a huge hit at the box-office, grossing $117.2 million in its opening weekend, the largest debut ever for a horror film.
