Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black Reunite for PARKER Series at Amazon

Marvel alum Robert Downey Jr. and writer/director Shane Black ("Lethal Weapon", "The Nice Guys") are reuniting once again to develop a series of movie and TV projects based on Donald E. Westlake's "Parker" book series for Amazon Studios. Black and Downey Jr. have previously collaborated on the 2005 neo-noir "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", and the MCU film "Iron Man 3".

Downey Jr. will star as Parker, a professional thief who approaches his job with a straightforward, no-nonsense work ethic. He's a craftsman. He's brutal, brilliant. He's also deadly. He's whatever it takes to get the money and get away clean. The character was first introduced in 1962's "The Hunter" and featured in 23 other titles. "Payback" starring Mel Gibson was based on "The Hunter". Parker appeared in the 2013 film of the same name starring Jason Statham, which was based on "Flashfire". The 1973 thriller "The Outfit" starring Robert Duvall was also based on Westlake's novel of the same name, which featured the character.

The first project will be "Play Dirty", a feature film which will be directed by Black, and co-written by Black, Charles Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi, with Joel Silver, Susan Downey and Marc Toberoff, Ezra Emanuel attached to produce.

Downey Jr. is also set to star in Christopher Nolan's epic biopic "Oppenheimer", and HBO's upcoming drama series "The Sympathizer".

Scarlett Johansson to star in Pittsburgh mob, massage parlor biopic
Scarlett Johansson is set to reteam with "Ghost in the Shell" director Rupert Sanders for the true story crime drama "Rub & Tug". The film was recently acquired for worldwide distribution by New Regency in a bidding war against five other interested parties.

"Rub & Tug" tells the incredible true story of Jean Marie Gill (Johansson), who managed to rise to power in the male-dominated industry of massage parlors and prostitution, becoming a crime kingpin in 1970s Pittsburgh, and even ran an anabolic steroids ring for the city's NFL team, the Steelers. She accomplished all of it while cross-dressing and leaning on her allies in the gay community in order to run her business under the mob's radar.

The screenplay was written by Gary Spinelli ("American Made"). The film will be produced by Joel Silver, Tobey Maguire, Johansson, Matthew Plouffe, Spinelli, and Jonathan Lia. Production is set to begin in February with a budget of around $30 million.

There isn't much to say at this point except that Liam Neeson gets to act like a badass and kick ass once more. Let's hope that the plot won't be so ridiculous that it ruins all of the action. One Direction This is Us Box Office

While the weekend box-office results were not quite impressive, the 3D concert movie "One Direction: This is Us" managed to push off "Lee Daniels' The Butler" from the top spot with a solid gross of $17 million. "We're the Millers" was also pushed down one spot, but Disney's "Planes" surprised everyone and climbed up one spot. Another major surprise was the appearance of the foreign language comedy "Instructions Not Included" ("No se Aceptan Devoluciones"), which opened at #5 with $7.5 million. The action flick "Getaway" starring Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez, proved to be this week's box-office bomb. The film opened in ninth place and grossed only $4.5 million. Although the film is a small-budget affair, it's still painful for the studio, particularly producer Joel Silver, that the film almost didn't make it in the top 10.

The new cinematic version of William F. Nolan's sci-fi novel "Logan's Run" has finally found its leading man : Ryan Gosling. Set to be released in 2012, the movie will be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn ("Bronson") and written by Alex Garland ("28 Days Later", "Sunshine", "Never Let Me Go"). Apparently this is not a remake of the 1976 version starring Michael York, and since there'a an interesting mix of talents at work here, there is a good chance it will be something worth seeing.

It seems Joel Silver is dead serious about this. Will Beal, a former cop, has been hired to write the screenplay. They apparently intend on keeping the R-rated tradition of the classic franchise, but as I've seen one reboot too many, I'm pretty sure there are going to be lots of major changes. For one, Warner Brothers will probably throw in a huge 100-200 million dollars budget, which would be a mistake, since "Lethal Weapon" started out as a small 15 million dollars budget movie in 1987. Also, Silver hasn't really been able to turn in any classics recently, so I'm a little worried he's thinking of tinkering with an old working formula. I suppose all that's left now is to catch news of the casting of the leads. Gibson and Glover had an incredible chemistry and their verbal riffs were the soul of the movie. I'm not saying it can't be done, but sometimes such perfect matches happen once in a blue moon. Who do you think could fill their shoes ?
