Idina Menzel is in talks to join Sony's musical version of
"Cinderella". Written and directed by
Kay Cannon (
"Pitch Perfect"), it will be produced by
James Corden, who also came up with the original idea for the film.
If negotiations go through, Menzel will star as the evil stepmother, also known as Lady Tremaine. Pop star
Camila Cabello will play the lead role, and will also write original music for the film.

Billy Porter is also in talks for the role of the fairy godmother.
"Cinderella" is set to shoot in London in February next year, and it will open in theaters on February 5, 2021.
Menzel has finished work on
"Frozen 2", in which she returns to voice Elsa, and can also be seen this year in the R-rated crime dramedy
