New on Blu-ray: I BLAME SOCIETY (2020) - Horror Comedy

BUY FROM AMAZON

Product Description: “We gave you all these ideas and you go off and make weird Frances Ha...” the famous last words of a producer who doubts the awesome power of writer/director/star Gillian Wallace Horvat. After a few idiosyncratic short films Horvat gave the world a concentrated dose of her meta-madness in I Blame Society, a film that destroys itself and its benefactors as it goes on. Horvat plays a funhouse version of herself, a terminally plugged-in creator looking to finally make the leap to the big time. With an atta boy from clueless moneymen, Gillian starts documenting her process of squaring up accounts with ex-boyfriends, old enemies, and innocent bystanders alike. “Authentic in more ways than one,” as Gillian herself says, I Blame Society is among the most pointed and dryly hysterical looks at the world of branding, buzzwords, and social media’s indemnification against serial selfishness. A true original, shot guerrilla style and with a cast and crew of friends, I Blame Society is a messy open casket funeral for the independent American cinema of the 2000s.

New on Blu-ray: HELLAWARE (2013) Starring Keith Poulson & Sophia Takal

BUY FROM AMAZON

Product Description: HELLAWARE gently satirizes the world of high-brow art through the eyes of a wannabe photographer who becomes consumed by the bright lights of mainstream success. Jaded by the "incestuous, New York, socialite shit" that sells at prominent art galleries, Nate (Keith Poulson) embarks on a quest for a more authentic brand of contemporary art. When a coked-up YouTube search leads to a music video from Delawarean Goth rappers Young Torture Killers, an Insane Clown Posse knock-off, Nate knows he's found his subjects. He soon drags his friend-with-benefits Bernadette (Sophia Takal) to rural Delaware to shoot the group playing in their parents' basement. To "immerse himself" in the group's culture and add an extra layer of realism to his work, Nate befriends the rappers and makes return trips to get to know them. But as his relationship with group develops, he becomes increasingly aware that, while you can take the boy out of the art world, you can't take the art world out of the boy.
