Sarah Chalke (
"Scrubs",
"Roseanne") has signed on to star in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of
Kristin Hannah's 2008 bestselling novel
"Firefly Lane". The drama series will be written and executive produced by
Maggie Friedman, who also serves as showrunner. Hannah will serve as the show's co-executive producer. The first episode will be directed by
Peter O'Fallon) (
"UnREAL".
The 10-episode series tells the story of two inseparable best friends, Tully and Kate, and their enduring, complicated bond, spanning four tumultuous decades.
Katherine Heigl is set to play Tully Hart, a character described as "a force of nature: magnetic, ambitious, reckless, and fiercely loyal", who still bears the scars of a traumatic childhood, and is dogged by inner loneliness, even as she goes on to fabulous fame and fortune as a journalist and talk show host.
Chalke stars as Kate Mularkey, who is awkward and shy, and has always been in the shadow of her best friend, Tully. Kate possesses an endearingly self-deprecating wit, and is often underestimated, but she's fiercely intelligent and loyal, with a big heart and a hidden wild streak.
Chalke recently appeared on
"Friends from College" and
"Speechless", and her future projects include a supporting turn in the comedy
"Eat Wheaties!" based on the book
"The Locklear Letters", and
Tyler Spindel's
"The Wrong Missy".
