LUZ (2018) - Trailer, Images and Posters

"Luz" is a horror film written and directed by Tilman Singer in his feature debut. The film is Singer's film school thesis project and an homage to 1980s European horror films. The story follows Luz Carrara (Luana Velis), a young cab driver who is followed by a demonic entity determined to finally be close to the woman it loves. Jan Bluthardt, Julia Riedler, Nadja Stubiger and Johannes Benecke co-star.

"Luz" premiered at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival and was released in select theaters in the U.S. on July 19, 2019.

In Theaters: THE LION KING, ROSIE and LUZ

The only new wide release this week is Disney's so-called "live-action" remake of "The Lion King", which throws away the dusty old animation of the 1994 classic and replaces it with sharply detailed photorealistic CGI. Critics failed to see the point of doing a shot-for-shot remake, but audiences seem to enjoy it.

The film already brought in $23 million from Thursday night previews and could finish the weekend somewhere between $180-200 million from 4,725 theaters. Overseas, "The Lion King" has raked in a total of $130.5 million, so far, from 42 markets. With a budget estimated at $260 million, not counting publicity costs, Disney needs an impressive debut.

In limited release it might be worth checking out the Irish drama "Rosie" starring Sarah Greene, and the disturbing horror film "Luz".

• The supernatural horror film "Luz" that took home the Jury Award for Best Feature at the 2018 Fantastic Fest. The film marks the feature debut of German-born filmmaker Tilman Singer.
• The drama "Hot Air" starring Steve Coogan ("Philomena"), Neve Campbell ("House of Cards"), Lawrence Gillard Jr. ("The Walking Dead" and Judith Light ("Transparent"). The film is directed by Frank Coraci ("The Wedding Singer", "Click").
• The comedic crime thriller "Driven" that chronicles the rise and fall of automobile tycoon John DeLorean. Directed by Nick Hamm ("The Journey", "Killing Bono"), the film stars Lee Pace ("Halt and Catch Fire"), Jason Sudeikis ("Horrible Bosses"), Judy Greer ("Kidding") and Corey Stoll ("Ant-Man").
