No Wave The Underground Films Of Beth B And Scott B New On Bluray

Product Description: Emerging from the downtown art scene of a pre-gentrified 1970s New York, Beth B and Scott B crafted strikingly cinematic sci-fi and neo-noir thrillers that emblemized the alienation and spirit of rebellion fueling a generation of young creators. Filmed in Super-8 and 16mm, and highlighted by the electrifying presence of performance artist Lydia Lunch, these defiant “B Movies” brought a Times Square grindhouse aesthetic to the music venues and art spaces where they were shown. Newly restored from the original film elements, No Wave (as the movement would later be called) is a major cinematic rediscovery: a provocative body of work previously unavailable, and an insider’s view of a city (and art scene) on the brink of explosion.

Lydia Lunch The Gun Is Loaded Road Rant New On Bluray

Product Description: In The Gun Is Loaded (1989), Lydia Lunch delivers a brutally frank manifesto in a journey through the heart of contemporary 1980s American darkness. Set against a series of New York City locales, Lydia’s singular brand of poetic nihilism is underscored by footage of bottom rung Americana; as race car crowds, dead end streets, and meat packing plants seamlessly illustrate her ruthless examination of “the American dream turned mean”. Featuring a cacophonous and deranged score by J. G. Thirlwell aka Foetus, Lydia brazenly disseminates her unresolved rage, exhilarating profanity, and timeless critiques of Reagan era politics in this ‘80s underground video classic.

In Road Rant: A Week on the Road with Lydia Lunch (2012), the X-rated cartoon animations of director Merrill Aldighieri add a comical edge to this otherwise intense Lydia Lunch tour documentary. Highlights from five concerts are accompanied by a live music score performed by composer Joe Budenholzer (Backworld) & horn player Terry Edwards (The Higsons) during their travels to Marseille, Lyon, Evreux, & Nantes amidst Lydia’s promotional tour for the French release of her book Paradoxia: A Predator’s Diary.

Sex Power And Money Films By Beth B New On Bluray

Product Description: After defining the No Wave film movement of the New York underground of the 1970s and ’80s, Beth B emerged in the 1990s as a provocative multi-disciplinary artist, creating a series of confrontational visual works that explore the dynamics of sex, power, and money. Beth B’s stylistically adventurous work seduces the eye even as it shocks the mind with an emotional nakedness seldom found in contemporary cinema. With every film, Beth B challenges the viewer to hold her cinematic gaze as she explores themes of sexual desire, the justice system, gender identity, the Vietnam War, or the female body. Derived primarily from analog video elements, the films in this two-disc collection have been restored under the filmmaker’s supervision, and adapted to HD for theatrical and Blu-ray release.
