Grace Van Patten to Play Amanda Knox in Hulu Limited Series Following Margaret Qualley's Exit

"Tell Me Lies" star Grace Van Patten will play the lead role in Hulu's upcoming limited series about Amanda Knox. Van Patten will play Knox after Margaret Qualley was fored to quit the project for scheduling reasons. Filming is scheduled to begin in October.

Created by KJ Steinberg, the untitled eight-episode series covers Knox's 16-year journey to set herself free after being wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. In the latest wrinkle in the case, an Italian court last week upheld Knox's slander conviction, the last remaining conviction stemming from the case of Meredith Kercher's 2007 murder.

Steinberg executive produces the limited series with Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson & Graham Littlefield of The Littlefield Company, as well as Monica Lewinsky, Knox and Chris Robinson of Knox Robinson Productions.

Margaret Qualley to Play Amanda Knox in Hulu Limited Series

Margaret Qualley is set to play the lead role in Hulu's upcoming limited series, which is currently untitled. The miniseries is being developed by 20th Television and The Littlefield Company ("Fargo", "The Handmaid's Tale"). The show hails from "This is Us" producer KJ Steinberg.

The eight-episode series is based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free. Knox's case became the subject of intense media scrutiny for years. The story has been adapted before in a 2011 Lifetime movie, the 2014 film "The Face of an Angel" starring Daniel Bruhl and Kate Beckinsale, and was the focus of a 2016 documentary.

She and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were arrested after Kercher, Knox's roommate when both were studying in Italy, was found murdered in their apartment. Knox and Sollecito were convicted of killing Kercher in 2009, had their convictions overturned in 2011 and were found guilty again in a retrial before finally being exonerated in 2015 by Italy's Supreme Court of Cassation, the highest court in the country.

The show is executive produced by Steinberg, Qualley and Monica Lewinsky. Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson and Graham Littlefield also executive produce for the Littlefield Company, while Amanda Knox and Chris Robinson executive produce for Knox Robinson Productions.

Clive Owen To Play Bill Clinton In IMPEACHMENT: AMERICAN CRIME STORY on FX

Oscar-nominated actor Clive Owen ("Gemini Man", "The Knick") is set to star as Bill Clinton in the third season of FX's acclaimed series "American Crime Story", which is due to air in 2020. Titled "Impeachment", the new season will focus on the sex scandal that rocked the Clinton presidency and it's based on Jeffrey Toobin's 1997 book "A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President".

The cast also includes Sarah Paulson as LInda Tripp, Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky, and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones. The Hillary Clinton role is still being cast.

The limited series will be written by Sarah Burgess, who will also executive produce alongside Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall and Paulson. Lewinsky is also a producer.

Production was supposed to begin in february, but it was pushed back to late March as Murphy is directing the musical comedy "The Prom" starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Awkwafina and James Corden.

Here's what Ryan Murphy had to say about "Impeachment":

"We do a show that is very thoroughly fact-checked and vetted and based on bestselling books by Jeffrey Toobin, I think the reason why it's interesting is because you don't have to change anything to feel modern. And I think that idea of impeachment obviously with Trump is fascinating. I wouldn't say that we're changing things that much or mentioning Trump at all in our narrative."
