Benedict Cumberbatch To Star As Satan In Good Omens

Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as Satan in the upcoming Amazon series "Good Omens", which is based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The actor will be voicing the character that Gaiman has revealed will be a "giant animated Satan". Cumberbatch's performance will appear in episode 6 of the series. "Good Omens" is set to premiere on May 31.

The story, which is described as "equal parts humor and horror, fantasy and drama", is set in the modern day when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan — except that Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon, are not looking forward to the coming war, and someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

The show's cast alredy includes David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Frances McDormand (as the voice of God), Jon Hamm (as the angel Gabriel), Nick Offerman, Miranda Richardson and Michael McKean. Gaiman adapted all six episodes of the series and also serves as showrunner.

Gillian Anderson Picture
Gillian Anderson has been quite active lately. After the final season of "Hannibal", the actress reprised the role of Dana Scully in the "The X-Files" revival miniseries, starred in the Netflix serial killer series "The Fall" and the big-screen drama "Sold", and appeared in Lifetime's "War & Peace" miniseries.

Anderson's next project will be "Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller and Michael Green's series based on Neil Gaiman's novel "American Gods". The story chronicles a war between the Old Gods of ancient mythology and the New Gods, manifestations of modern life and technology. Anderson will star as Media, "the mouthpiece for the New Gods". Here's a full description of her role from the official press release:
"Anderson will play Media, the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens-to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her."

American Gods
The cast also features Ricky Whittle, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Ian McShane, Cloris Leachman, Peter Stormare, Yetide Badaki and Crispin Glover. The first episode, which is set to air on Starz in 2017, will be directed by David Slade ("Hard Candy"). Until then, here is the synopsis for the first episode:

"A man, broken and alone, wishes only to survive his time in prison long enough to see his wife. Again. Although unexpected news releases him from prison early, it is hardly the news he wishes. Left feeling like he is looking at the world from the bottom of a well, he must literally walk the heroes' path back to a time where he even resembles sanity."

Emily Browning joins American Gods series
Emily Browning ("Sucker Punch") has joined the cast of Starz' upcoming TV series "American Gods".

Created by former "Hannibal" showrunner Bryan Fuller and "Alien: Covenant" writer Michael Green, the series is based on the Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker awards-winning novel written by Neil Gaiman which envisions a world where gods and mythological creatures exist because people believe in them. Here is the official synopsis released by Starz:
"The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities."
The plot follows a recently released ex-convict named Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) who meets a mysterious man who calls himself "Wednesday" (Ian McShane) and who knows more than he first seems to about Shadow's life and past. Browning has joined the series as the former's wife, Laura Moon. Without spoiling anything about the character, here is what author Gaiman and showrunners Fuller and Green had to say about Browning:
Neil Gaiman: "I've been fascinated by Emily Browning since 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'. She has a challenge ahead of her: Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page. She's going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life."

Bryan Fuller and Michael Green: "You don't need a magical coin when you have Emily Browning. She brings a fascinating spark of life to every role she inhabits and we are tickled she will be lighting up Laura Moon and bringing her to life in more ways than one on American Gods."
