"Official Secrets" is a fact-based political thriller directed by Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi", "Eye in the Sky") from a script he co-wrote alongside Gregory Bernstein ("The Conspirator") and Sara Bernstein ("Trial and Error"), based on the non-fiction book "The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War" by Marcia & Thomas Mitchell.
The film stars Keira Knightley as GCHQ employee Katharine Gun, who leaked a secret memo exposing an illegal spying operation by the United States of America, looking for information with which to blackmail United Nations diplomats tasked to vote on a resolution regarding the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Matt Smith, Matthew Goode, Rhys Ifans, Indira Varma and Ralph Fiennes co-star.
"Official Secrets" premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was released in theaters in the U.S. on August 30, 2019. The film will be released in the U.K. on October 18th.
