OPHELIA (2018) - Trailers, Clips, Images and Posters

"Ophelia" is a period drama directed by Claire McCarthy ("The Waiting City") from a script by "Mad Men" producer/writer Semi Chellas. The film is a reimagining of William Shakespeare's play "Hamlet" based on Lisa Klein's novel of the same name.

Set in medieval-era Denmark, the film stars Daisy Ridley as Ophelia, lady-in-waiting to Queen Gertrude (Naomi Watts), who captures the affections of the young Prince Hamlet (George MacKay). As their secretive love affair takes flight, betrayal strikes the court, threatening to derail their union and devastate the royal family for good. The cast also includes Clive Owen, Tom Felton, Devon Terrell and Dominic Mafham.

"Ophelia" premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and received a limited release in theaters on June 28, 2019. The film will be released digitally on July 2, 2019.

In Theaters: ANNABELLE COMES HOME, YESTERDAY, OPHELIA and EUPHORIA

Nothing spells "summer" quite like an R-rated horror film. But when that film is part of "The Conjuring" universe, you can bet it's going to bring in a lot of money, so it makes sense to release it during the crowded summer season (although not very impressive, so far). "Annabelle Comes Home" is the latest Conjurverse spinoff sequel to hit theaters, and it brings back the original franchise team of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson.

The third installment in the "Annabelle" franchise brought in $3.5 million from Tuesday night previews, and a modest $7.2 million in its opening day on Wednesday from 3,603 theaters. It also scored a low "B-" from CinemaScore, which is a franchise low. The film is expected to gross around $16 million this weekend, which isn't even close to topping the charts as "Toy Story" is primed to lead the pack once again with over $60 million.

Another new wide release is the British Beatles-inspired rom-com "Yesterday" from acclaimed director Danny Boyle ("Trainspotting", "127 Hours"). The film opened in 2,603 theaters and could end the weekend with around $12 million.

In limited release you should definitely check out the Shakespeare-inspired drama "Ophelia" starring Daisy Ridley and Naomi Watts, and the 2017 drama "Euphoria" starring Alicia Vikander and Eva Green.

• The upcoming "Sonic The Hedgehog" movie based on the popular SEGA videogame franchise. The film features Ben Schwartz as the voice of the animated protagonist, and it stars James Marsden, Jim Carrey, Tika Sumpter and Neal McDonough.
• The Shakespeare drama "Ophelia", a retelling of the author's "Hamlet" through the eyes of Ophelia, played here by Daisy Ridley. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Lisa Klein and it also stars Naomi Watts, Clive Owen, George MacKay and Tom Felton.
• The romantic drama "My Days of Mercy" starring Ellen Page, Kate Mara and Elias Koteas.

• Netflix's new sci-fi drama series "The Society" from executive producer Christopher Keyser ("Party of Five") and filmmaker Marc Webb ("The Amazing Spider-man").

Daisy Ridley and Naomi Watts Join Reimagining of Shakespeare's Hamlet

Daisy Ridley ("Star Wars: The Force Awakens") and Naomi Watts ("Allegiant") will lead "Ophelia", a new take on Shakespeare's "Hamlet" based on a novel written by Lisa Klein. The novel narrates the story from the point of view of a version of the young noblewoman who is secretly married to the prince of Denmark.

Ridley is in talks to play Ophelia, while Watts will play Queen Gertrude. Obviously, apart from the characters involved and the middle ages setting, it will not adhere too closely to Shakespeare's original text. The film will be directed by Claire McCarthy ("The Waiting City") from a script by Semi Chellas ("Mad Men"), Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger ("Arlington Road").

Here is what McCarthy had to say about the film:

"Ophelia is brimming with youth-fueled charisma, exploring the nature of true love and beauty, and I'm so excited to bring this fresh mythic spin to Hamlet from a female perspective. This retelling will be experienced through the eyes of Ophelia and has the kind of romance, complexity and suspense that makes this beloved story exciting to younger audiences."

"Set in the 14th Century but spoken in a contemporary voice, OPHELIA is a pulse-pounding insight into a perilous world of murder and betrayal.
