Gwyneth Paltrow To star In Ping Pong Movie Marty Supreme

Gwyneth Paltrow returns to acting after a five-year break with a role in the upcoming ping pong movie "Marty Supreme" from Josh Safdie, who is best known for directing "Uncut Gems" and "Good Time" with his brother, Benny Safdie. This will be his first solo feature directorial project since 2008. He also recently directed Adam Sandler's Netflix comedy special "Love You".

The film also stars Timothee Chalamet, but plot details are being kept under wraps. While it was previously rumored to be loosely inspired by a pro ping-pong player, the film is said to be a fictionalised original film. There are also no details about Paltrow's role.

The screenplay was written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, who both produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas and Chalamet.

Paltrow's last role was in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame". She has lately devoted much of her time to the lifestyle brand Goop, which she founded in 2008.

Timothée Chalamet in Talks to Star in Josh Safdie's Ping Pong Movie MARTY SUPREME
Timothée Chalamet is in final negotiations to star in and produce A24's "Marty Supreme", a new movie from "Uncut Gems" helmer Josh Safdie. The screenplay is penned by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein ("Uncut Gem", "Good Time", "Daddy Longlegs").

The film is loosely inspired by ping pong player Marty Reisman, but plot details are being kept under wraps. Bronstein and Safdie will also produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas and A24. This is Safdie's first solo project after working with his brother Benny Safdie on several films. The two have split off to pursue solo directing careers, while continuing to produce together through their Elara Pictures.

A legendary American table tennis player known for his flamboyant style and exceptional skill, Reisman started his career as a hustler in Manhattan, playing for bets and prize money. He won 22 major ping pong titles from 1946 to 2002 and won five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. Known for his unique and unorthodox playing style, which included a strong emphasis on spin and a distinctive forehand and backhand technique, he was a master of deception and could manipulate the ball in ways that confused his opponents.

At 67, Reisman competed in the United States National Hardbat Championship and became the oldest player to win an open national competition in a racket sport. He was known as the "wizard of table tennis" and even opened for the Harlem Globetrotters with his ping pong comedy routine. In addition to his playing career, Reisman was also a promoter and ambassador for the sport. His contributions to table tennis extended beyond his competitive achievements, as he played a significant role in popularizing table tennis in the United States.

Chalamet recently wrapped filming on James Mangold's "A Complete Unknown" in which he plays a young Bob Dylan.
