New on DVD and Blu-ray: May 9, 2017

New on DVD and Blu-ray this week we have everyone's favorite "so bad it's good movie" of 2017, "Fifty Shades Darker", a double feature Blu-ray edition of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", and the true story of "A Street Cat Named Bob". We also have the first season of the HBO comedy series "Divorce" and the fourth season of Netflix's "Orange is the New Black".

In the oldies but goldies category we have new Blu-ray releases for Michael Mann's "Heat", John Waters' "Serial Mom", Lawrence Kasdan's "The Accidental Tourist", the 1988 horror film "Brain Damage" and Gus Van Sant's much-maligned "Psycho" remake.

The full trailer for A&E TV series "Bates Motel" is online and provides an interesting glimpse into the show's concept. Containing a mix of psychological drama and mystery thriller, the series is a prequel to "Psycho" and centers on the relationship between young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga). The series premieres on March 18.

BATES MOTEL (2013) - New Trailer and Poster

A new trailer and poster have been released for the A&E TV series "Bates Motel". The show is a prequel to "Psycho" and centers on the relationship between young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga). The series premieres on March 18.

Official Synopsis

"In “Bates Motel,” following the tragic death of her husband, Norma Bates buys a motel on the outskirts of the idyllic coastal town of White Pine Bay, seeking a fresh start. As Norma and Norman get ensconced in their new home, they discover this town isn’t quite what it seems, and the locals aren’t so quick to let them in on their secrets. But the Bates’ are done being pushed around and will do whatever it takes to survive – and will do whatever it takes to protect their own secrets."
