The 2018
"Tomb Raider" film is a new attempt at adapting the famous and long-running video game franchise featuring the character Lara Croft. The games were previously adapted for the big screen in 2001 with
Angelina Jolie as Croft, followed by a sequel in 2003. Since then, the video games themselves have undergone a re-imagining in 2013, and the 2018 film is based on the new series of games.
Alicia Vikander stars as Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer (
Dominic West), who vanished when she was a teenager. Now, at the age of 21, she refuses to claim her inheritance and decides to retrace her father's steps, embarking on a perilous journey in which her limits will be tested.

"The Wave"), the film also stars
Daniel Wu, Walton Goggins, Kristin Scott Thomas and
Derek Jacobi.
"Tomb Raider" opened in theaters on March 16, 2018 and received mixed reviews from critics. Although the film was criticized for being a fairly average action film, Vikander received almost unanimous praise for her performance. It opened with $23.7 million at the box-office and has grossed an additional $105.2 million from foreign markets, against a $94 million budget.
