the-goldfinch-2019-movie-trailers-tv-spots-clip-featurettes-images-and-posters

"The Goldfinch" is a drama directed by John Crowley ("Brooklyn") from a script by Peter Straughan ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") based on the 2013 Pulitzer prize-winning novel of the same name by Donna Tartt.

The film tells the story of Theodore "Theo" Decker (Ansel Elgort), who was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. The cast also includes Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson, Jeffrey Wright, Ashleigh Cummings, Aneurin Barnard, Denis O'Hare, Willa Fitzgerald and Finn Wolfhard.

"The Goldfinch" premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and opened in theaters on September 13, 2019. The film received mostly negative reviews from critics, and tanked at the box-office with a $2.6 million debut from 2,542 locations, which is the sixth worst ever for a wide release.

weekend-box-office-it-chapter-two-hustlers

The Stephen King adaptation "It: Chapter Two" topped the weekend charts in its second weekend, but it was STX's real-life crime drama "Hustlers", starring Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu, that really impressed. Warner Bros' may have a big hit with "It", but they've also scored a major flop with the drama "The Goldfinch", which delivered one of the worst openings ever for a wide release.

in-theaters-hustlers-the-goldfinch-monos-freaks

The true-life stripper crime drama "Hustlers" starring Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez and featuring an impressive supporting cast that also includes Cardi B, Julia Stiles and Lili Reinhart, is now in theaters and off to a solid start with $2.5 million from Thursday night previews, which should put it on track for a $25+ million debut from 3,250 theaters. It won't be enough, however, to knock "It" down from the top spot, as the horror film is expected to hold at #1 with a $37 million second weekend. "Hustlers" has received excellent reviews from critics, but a lukewarm "B-" grade from CinemaScore's opening night polls.

Another new wide release is Warner Bros' "The Goldfinch", an adaptation of Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel that stars Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, Luke Wilson and Sarah Paulson. Like "Hustlers", the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, but the critical reception for the film has been generally negative. On the bright side, it looks like moviegoers are mostly liking the film, as CinemaScore reports a decent "B" grade from their polls. Pundits expect this one to debut with around $8 million from 2,542 theaters.

In other news, the dramedy "Brittany Runs a Marathon" starring Jillian Bell has expanded nationwide. And, in limited release, it's worth checking out Alejandro Landes' teen commandos drama "Monos", and the sci-fi thriller "Freaks" starring Emile Hirsch, Bruce Dern, Grace Park and Amanda Crew
