"Slender Man" is a horror film directed by Sylvain White ("The Losers", "Stomp the Yard") from a script by David Birke ("Elle") based on the creepypasta character of the same name created in 2009 by Something Awful forums user Eric Knudsen, also known as Victor Surge. The character also sparked some controversy in the past few years, as a series of real-life violent acts have been committed by readers of the Slender Man fiction.
The film is set in a small town in Massachusetts, and it follows a group of friends fascinated by the internet lore of the Slender Man, who attempt to prove that he doesn't actually exist...until one of them mysteriously goes missing. The cast features Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso, Alex Fitzalan, Taylor Richardson and Javier Botet.
"Slender Man" opened in theaters on August 10, 2018 and was universally panned by both critics and audiences. The film is expected to gross around $10 million in its opening weekend after raking in $4.8 million on Friday.
