the-fortune-cookie-1966-new-on-bluray

Product Description: Powered by an Oscar-winning performance by Walter Matthau (The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, Charley Varrick) as the quintessential all-American chiseler, The Fortune Cookie is a hysterically funny comedy that showcases legendary filmmaker Billy Wilder (Some Like It Hot, The Lost Weekend) at his uproarious best. Harry Hinkle (Jack Lemmon, Irma La Douce, Avanti!) is one lucky guy! When he’s accidentally clobbered by a 220-pound halfback, all Harry suffers is a slight concussion. All, that is, until Whiplash Willie (Matthau)—a legal scoundrel of the first order—arrives on the scene! For if Harry follows shyster Willie’s advice and feigns a crippling injury, the two charlatans can split a cool million in phony insurance claims. But can Willie’s world-class finagling dispel those ominous words that lie within the fortune cookie on Harry’s hospital plate: You can’t fool all of the people all of the time? The first film to feature the dynamic duo of Matthau and Lemmon (The Odd Couple, The Front Page, Grumpy Old Men) was co-written by Wilder and his brilliant collaborator I.A.L. Diamond (One, Two, Three) and boasts beautiful black-and-white cinematography by Joseph LaShelle (Laura).

bad-news-bears-1976-new-on-bluray

Product Description: THE BELOVED HIT MOVIE that inspired two sequels, a television series, and a remake celebrates 45 years! Walter Matthau is at his absolute best as the grumbling beer-guzzling former minor-league pitcher who gets roped into coaching a band of half-pint misfits. Even with this rag-tag-team in uniform, it’s nearly impossible for anyone to cheer them on. It’s a refreshingly outrageous, utterly believable, and quite cleverly funny tale of baseball dreams and underdog realities.

the-odd-couple-2-1998-new-on-bluray

Product Description: FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY! It's a comedy celebration as Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau reunite to reprise their roles as Felix and Oscar in Neil Simon's The Odd Couple II. The times may have changed, but thankfully not the traits that make ex-roomies Felix Ungar (Lemmon) and Oscar Madison (Matthau) the all-time perfect mismatch. Oscar is still an uncompromising slob who thinks a brown sock and a black sock is close enough. Felix is still a fussbudget who can't pass a spice rack without arranging it alphabetically. After years of going their separate ways, the two are together again, en route to the wedding of Oscar's son to Felix's daughter. They've got the map, the rental car, a tankful of Simon's comedy zingers, and they're getting 1,000 smiles to the gallon.

audie-murphy-collection-new-on-bluray

Product Description: THE DUEL AT SILVER CREEK

From Don Siegel, the legendary director of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Lineup, Two Mules for Sister Sara, Dirty Harry, Charley Varrick and The Shootist, comes this two-fisted, action-packed western, starring celebrated war hero turned movie star Audie Murphy (Night Passage). Stephen McNally (Woman in Hiding) is Lightning Tyrone, the quick-drawing marshal of Silver City who's intent on capturing a ruthless gang of claim jumpers that have been terrorizing and murdering local miners—including his best friend. After losing the use of his famed trigger finger in a shootout, Lightning deputizes the sharp-shooting Silver Kid (Murphy), whose own father was killed by the gang, to help bring the outlaws to justice. But their plans are complicated when Lightning falls for the beautiful new lady in town (Faith Domergue, This Island Earth), whose interest in the marshal is a thin disguise for her own dangerous agenda. This unforgettable adventure, brimming with pulse-pounding thrills, danger-tinged romance and gun-blazing glory, co-stars Susan Cabot (Son of Ali Baba) and screen great Lee Marvin (Prime Cut) in one of his first screen appearances.

RIDE A CROOKED TRAIL

In a refreshing change-of-pace role, Audie Murphy (No Name on the Bullet) plays Joe Maybe, an outlaw who assumes a U.S. Marshal's identity and is appointed sheriff of Webb City, a rough river town, after local lawmaker Judge Kyle (Walter Matthau, Charley Varrick) takes a shine to him. The only reason Maybe goes along with the ruse is to gain easy access to the town bank and plan a robbery. This scheme goes dangerously awry when Tessa (Gia Scala, The Price of Fear), a former flame from New Orleans, shows up in town and is persuaded to pose as his wife. The couple's masquerade is further complicated by the arrival of Sam Teeler (Henry Silva, Code of Silence), Maybe's rival in crime, who plans to rob the bank with his own gang of outlaws. A fast-paced action-adventure full of unexpected plot twists, Ride a Crooked Trail also displays a surprisingly light comic flair which is capped by Walter Matthau's delightful, rambunctious performance as the wily Judge Kyle. Directed by Jesse Hibbs (To Hell and Back) and written by the great Borden Chase (Red River, Winchester '73, Backlash).

NO NAME ON THE BULLET

From Jack Arnold, the acclaimed director of It Came from Outer Space, The Glass Web, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Incredible Shrinking Man and Man in the Shadow, comes this thrilling and suspenseful western starring World War II hero turned movie star Audie Murphy (The Duel at Silver Creek) as a "good" bad guy in a tense tale of retribution. When hired killer John Gant (Murphy) rides into town, no one is sure whose name is on his bullet. Several townsfolk, knowing they have enemies, each believe that the professional assassin is there to kill them. While they wait for him to make his move, paranoia starts taking over in this exciting story of payback on the wide-open plains. Beautifully shot in CinemaScope by Harold Lipstein (Ride a Crooked Trail, Pillars of the Sky) and featuring a stellar cast that includes Charles Drake (The Price of Fear), Joan Evans (A Strange Adventure), Virginia Grey (Strangers in the Night), Warren Stevens (40 Pounds of Trouble), R.G. Armstrong (White Lightning), Willis Bouchey (Panic in Year Zero), Whit Bissell (Not as a Stranger), Edgar Stehli (4D Man) and Jerry Paris (Marty).

After landing himself in jail trying to break out his friend, Jack Burns (Douglas) finds himself alone and on the run from the law. fail-safe-1964-new-on-dvd-and-bluray

Product Description: This unnerving procedural thriller painstakingly details an all-too-plausible nightmare scenario in which a mechanical failure jams the United States military’s chain of command and sends the country hurtling toward nuclear war with the Soviet Union. Working from a contemporary best seller, screenwriter Walter Bernstein and director Sidney Lumet wrench harrowing suspense from the doomsday fears of the Cold War era, making the most of a modest budget and limited sets to create an atmosphere of clammy claustrophobia and astronomically high stakes. Starring Henry Fonda as a coolheaded U.S. president and Walter Matthau as a trigger-happy political theorist, Fail Safe is a long-underappreciated alarm bell of a film, sounding an urgent warning about the deadly logic of mutually assured destruction.

From Don Siegel, the legendary director of The Shootist, Coogan’s Bluff, The Black Windmill and Two Mules for Sister Sara comes this tough-as-nails action classic about a small-time crook who outfoxes the mob and the law. a-face-in-the-crowd-1957-new-on-blu-ray-dvd

Product Description: A Face in the Crowd chronicles the rise and fall of Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes (Andy Griffith), a boisterous entertainer discovered in an Arkansas drunk tank by Marcia Jeffries (Patricia Neal), a local radio producer with ambitions of her own. His charisma and cunning soon shoot him to the heights of television stardom and political demagoguery, forcing Marcia to grapple with the manipulative, reactionary monster she has created. Directed by Elia Kazan from a screenplay by Budd Schulberg, this incisive satire features an extraordinary debut screen performance by Griffith, who brandishes his charm in an uncharacteristically sinister role. Though the film was a flop on its initial release, subsequent generations have marveled at its eerily prescient diagnosis of the toxic intimacy between media and politics in American life.

a-new-leaf-1971-blu-ray-olive-signature-edition

Product Description: A New Leaf, the deliciously dark and deadpan comedy from writer-director-comedian Elaine May (The Heartbreak Kid), stars Walter Matthau (The Odd Couple) as Henry Graham, who, due to his extravagant lifestyle, has run through his inheritance. After pleading with his incredulous Uncle Harry (played with lip-smacking glee by James Coco, Such Good Friends) for a loan, Henry convinces Uncle Harry to give him the money with the proviso that the loan must be repaid within six weeks or Henry will forfeit all of his property used as collateral. With the aid of his gentleman's gentleman, Harold (a scene-stealing George Rose, The Pirates of Penzance), Henry decides to marry into wealth, and once the vows have been taken he'll decide how to handle getting out of the marriage. Enter wealthy heiress Henrietta Lowell (May), a klutzy botanist and the woman of Henry's get-rich-quick-scheme dreams. But as best laid plans often go, Henry must weather the obstacles placed in his path not only by his Uncle Harry, but by Andy McPherson (Jack Weston, Wait Until Dark), Henrietta's jealous and unscrupulous lawyer. Adding to the amusement are William Redfield (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) as Beckett, Henry's bemused, put-upon lawyer and Doris Roberts (TV's Everybody Loves Raymond) as Mrs. Traggert, Henrietta's pilfering housekeeper.

Upon its 1971 theatrical release, Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote that A New Leaf was "One of the funniest movies of our unfunny age," "hilarious, and cockeyed, and warm." Prescient comments indeed.
