"War for the Planet of the Apes" is the final installment in the
"Planet of the Apes" reboot trilogy.
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" director
Matt Reeves returned to helm the new sequel and also co-wrote the script alongside
Mark Bomback (
"The Wolverine").
The film finds Caesar (
Andy Serkis) and his apes forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (
Woody Harrelson). The imminent battle will determine the fate of both species and the future of the planet. The cast also includes
Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Amiah Miller, Terry Notary, Ty Olsson, Judy Greer, Sara Canning and
Toby Kebbell.
"War for the Planet of the Apes" opened in theaters on July 14th, 2017 and received almost universally positive reviews from critics, who praised the film's script, direction, performances and visual effects, calling it one of the best final chapters in the history of movie trilogies. The film grossed $5 million from Thursday night previews and is expected to finish its opening weekend at the box-office with an estimated $70 million.
