Phoebe Dynevor ("Anniversary", "Bridgerton") has signed on to star in 20th Century Studios' romantic comedy "Beach Read", written and directed by Yulin Kuang ("People We Meet on Vacation") based on the 2020 New York Times bestselling novel from Emily Henry.
The story follows January Andrews, a successful romance novelist who struggles with grief and writer's block after her father's death and the discovery of secrets he's long kept hidden. While spending the summer in his Michigan beach house to prepare it for sale, she unexpectedly reconnects with Gus Everett, an author who was once her rival in college. Both creatively stuck, they agree to a writing challenge over the summer, swapping literary genres while promising that there will be no romance between them. As if this wasn't a romantic comedy.
Neal H. Moritz produces through Original Films, alongside Karina Rahardja. Sarah Shepard and Catherine Hughes are overseeing for 20th Century Studios. Efforts to land the rights to the book were spearheaded by the literary affairs team led by Clare Reeth.
Dynevor can next be seen in Netflix's survival thriller "Shiver", A24's "Famous" opposite Zac Efron, and M. Night Shyamalan's "Remain", which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal. She has also finished filming the thriller "Pendulum" co-starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Norman Reedus.
