Tèa Leoni ("Madam Secretary", "Bad Boys") will be making her return to broadcast television with the multi-camera comedy pilot "Newlyweds" co-created by Gail Lerner and Jamie Lee Curtis. Lerner wrote the pilot. Leoni's casting helped the projecct move forward into production, and she will also serve as a producer. Curtis is expected to star in a supporting or guest role. The project was previously set up at Netflix with Curtis attached to star as the female lead.
The show is later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman, Jeanie (Leoni), and a buttoned-up professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship. Lerner and Curtis executive produce alongside Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz and Lionsgate Television. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
In the 1990s, Leoni starred in the short-lived Fox sitcom "Flying Blind" and headlined the 1995 comedy series "The Naked Truth", which ran for three seasons, one on ABC and two on NBC. In 2014 she starred in the CBS drama series "Madam Secretary", which aired for six seasons. In 2019 she took a break from acting until she joined Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building" in 2024. She also starred alongside Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega in the 2025 horror film "Death of a Unicorn".
