"Though I Am an Inept Villainess" is a new anime series based on the Japanese light novel series written by Satsuki Nakamura, which began on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in July 2020. Ichijinsha began publishing the physical version in Japan, with illustrations by YukiKana, in December 2020 with 12 volumes released to date. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Ei Ohitsuji, began in December 2020 with 10 volumes released in Japan to date. Seven Seas Entertainment releases an English-language version of the light novel and manga series.

The anime is directed by Mitsue Yamazaki ("ZENSHU"), with Yoshiko Nakamura ("Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle") in charge of series composition and Ai Kikuchi ("Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie") providing character designs.

The opening theme song is "Sunny", performed by Milet, while the ending theme song is "Hōkiboshi" ("Shooting Star") performed by Rokudenashi. The voice cast includes Manaka Iwami, Natsumi Kawaida, Makoto Furukawa, Yūichirō Umehara, Hana Hishikawa, Farahnaz Nikray, Ai Kayano and Mai Nakahara.

The English dub cast features Brianna Knickerbocker, Rebecca Wang, Kaiji Tang, Aleks Le, Lizzie Freeman, Mori Calliope, Grace Lu and Emi Lo.

"Though I Am an Inept Villainess" premiered on July 12, 2026.
