Johnny Depp To Star In Ti Wests Ebenezer A Christmas Carol

Johnny Depp is in final talks to star in Paramount's "Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol", a new adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic holiday story. Horror filmmaker Ti West ("X", "Pearl", "Maxxxine") will direct from a script by Nathaniel Halpern ("Tales From the Loop", "Legion").

Depp will play the titular role of Ebenezer Scrooge, a misanthropic and miserly businessman in 19th century London who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future in an effort to save himself from an afterlife of torment. Andrea Riseborough ("Oblivion", "To Leslie") is set to co-star.

Paramount is looking to release the film on November 13, 2026. "Nosferatu" director Robert Eggers is also developing his own version of the iconic story at Warner Bros., with Willem Dafoe circling the role of Scrooge.

Emma Watts is producing, and Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman are executive producers.

Depp recently finished work on the thriller "Day Drinker" in which he stars opposite Penélope Cruz, and the film expected to premiere in 2026. Depp's new directorial project, the biographical drama "Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness" is set to open in US theaters on November 7th. The film stars Riccardo Scamarcio, Stephen Graham and Al Pacino.
