Written and directed by Oliver Daly, "A.X.L." is a sci-fi adventure film based on Daly's own proof-of-concept short "Miles". The film is executive produced by "The Dark Knight" writer David S. Goyer.

Alex Neustaedter ("Colony") stars as a kind-hearted outsider named Miles Hill, who stumbles upon a top-secret, robotic dog created by the military named A.X.L. Together, the two develop a special friendship based on trust, loyalty and compassion. Becky G, Thomas Jane, Ted McGinley, Dominic Rains, Lou Taylor Pucci and Patricia de Leon co-star.

"A.X.L." opened in theaters on August 24, 2018 and received mostly negative reviews from critics. The film is expected to gross around $5 million from 1,695 theaters in its opening weekend.

in-theaters-the-happytime-murders-searching-axl-papillon

The R-rated puppet crime comedy "The Happytime Murders" starring Melissa McCarthy is now in theaters and getting completely hammered by critics and audiences. Another new release is the sci-fi family adventure film "A.X.L.", which didn't even get screened for critics. This is usually a bad sign.

Some worthwhile new releases are now playing in select theaters, like the mystery thriller "Searching" starring John Cho, and the "Papillon" remake starring Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek.
