"The Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal reunite for the historical crime drama "Detroit". The film is set amidst the 1967 Detroit Rebellion and is based on the Algiers Motel incident of the 12th Street Riot where three young African American men were murdered as the city was under a curfew and the National Guard patrolled the streets. The cast includes John Boyega, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore, Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski, Jack Reynor and Hannah Murray.

"Detroit" was released in select theaters on July 28th, 2017 and expanded nationwide on August 4th. It received mostly positive reviews from critics who praised its direction, script and cast, although some voices have also questioned the film's historical accuracy, and commented on the flat characters and unimaginative direction.

At the box-office the film was a disappointment, grossing only $7.1 million and finishing in 8th place in its first wide weekend.
