The historical drama "The Promise" tells the story of a love triangle set during the Armenian Genocide between a brilliant medical student (Oscar Isaac), a beautiful and sophisticated woman (Charlotte Le Bon), and a renowned Associated Press journalist (Christian Bale). The three share an Armenian heritage, and their conflicting passions are set aside as they join forces to save their people and survive the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
Directed by Terry George ("Hotel Rwanda"), the film also stars Shohreh Aghdashloo, Tom Hollander, Angela Sarafyan, Jean Reno, Roman Mitichyan and Rade Serbedzija.
"The Promise" opened in theaters on April 21, 2017 to a mixed critical reception and a poor box-office performance. The film grossed only $4.1 million from 2,251 theaters in its opening weekend.
