David Fincher is no longer attached to direct
"Cleopatra". The movie, based on
Stacy Schiff’s book
"Cleopatra: A Life", will star
Angelina Jolie in the lead role and screenwriter
Eric Roth (
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") was hired to pen a draft of the script. Now, Fincher has quit the project. Sony is currently looking for a new director but for now the only name that has surfaced is that of
Ang Lee (
"Brokeback Mountain").
"The Expendables 2" is enjoying a great run in theaters (second week at #1), so
"The Expendables 3" is definitely going to happen. Producer
Avi Lerner has announced that they've already picked up
Nicolas Cage for the sequel and they've got their sights set on
Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford and
Wesley Snipes for additional roles :
"We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters].
And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]"
"The Avengers 2" has a release date :
May 1, 2015. Director
Joss Whedon will return to helm the sequel. Other Marvel movies' release dates are :
"Iron Man 3" -
May 3, 2013;
"Thor: The Dark World" -
November 8, 2013;
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" -
April 4, 2014;
"Guardians of the Galaxy" -
August 1, 2014.
Ron Howard's ambitious adaptation of
Stephen King's
"The Dark Tower" series has been refused by Warner Brothers. The project, which would have included three films and two TV series (picked up by HBO), had encountered several setbacks in the past, most of those having to do with the epic scope which required an equally epic budget. The project was first refused by Universal and now Warner has passed on it as well. There may still be hope, however, as Media Rights Capital is in "serious talks" to finance the project. Initially
Javier Bardem was linked to star as the lead and later on
Russel Crowe also expressed interest in the project if it were to be greenlit. There is currently no lead secured, but if MRC will go all the way, we might be in for a really cool project.
