The Expendables 3 Motion Poster and New TV Spots

A new motion poster and three TV spots have been released for "The Expendables 3". Not much can be said about the sequel, except that it's going to feature an amazing cast of action stars and that it's going to attempt to top everything that's been done before in the franchise, but that's to be expected from any new installment.

What's interesting is that it was announced that the film will be rated PG-13 instead of R like the first two films. While the decision to slow down the violence is odd for this particular franchise, I'm not worried. "The Dark Knight" is often quoted as being the most violent PG-13 movie ever, and it's true that it managed to get away with a lot of brutal stuff, so I expect that "The Expendables 3" shouldn't have any problems displaying copious amounts of the rough stuff. Here is the full MPAA rating : "PG-13 for violence including intense sustained gun battles and fight scenes, and for language". There you go. It's definitely going to be violent and intense.

The sequel is directed by Patrick Hughes ("Red Hill") and it stars Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kelsey Grammer, Antonio Banderas, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell

"The Expendables 3" will open on August 15, 2014.

The sequel stars Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kelsey Grammer, Antonio Banderas, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell

"The Expendables 3" will open on August 15, 2014.

Leonardo DiCaprio Wilson Biopic
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in the Woodrow Wilson biopic "Wilson". The film will be based on the biography written by A. Scott Berg which focuses on the US President's handling of World War I, the Federal Reserve and the League of Nations. Here is the synopsis for the biography:
"One hundred years after his inauguration, Woodrow Wilson still stands as one of the most influential figures of the twentieth century, and one of the most enigmatic. And now, after more than a decade of research and writing, Pulitzer Prize-winning author A. Scott Berg has completed Wilson–the most personal and penetrating biography ever written about the 28th President.

In addition to the hundreds of thousands of documents in the Wilson Archives, Berg was the first biographer to gain access to two recently-discovered caches of papers belonging to those close to Wilson. From this material, Berg was able to add countless details–even several unknown events–that fill in missing pieces of Wilson’s character and cast new light on his entire life.

From the scholar-President who ushered the country through its first great world war to the man of intense passion and turbulence , from the idealist determined to make the world “safe for democracy” to the stroke-crippled leader whose incapacity and the subterfuges around it were among the century’s greatest secrets, the result is an intimate portrait written with a particularly contemporary point of view – a book at once magisterial and deeply emotional about the whole of Wilson’s life, accomplishments, and failings. This is not just Wilson the icon – but Wilson the man."

Bryan Cranston Trumbo

Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") is set to star in the biopic "Trumbo" which tells the story of Dalton Trumbo, a blacklisted screenwriter in the 1950s who was jailed for refusing to answer to the Congress’ infamous House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Trumbo wrote the screenplays of classics like "Spartacus", "Papillon" and "Roman Holiday". The writer eventually cleared his name and helped end the blacklist once and for all. The film is directed by Jay Roach ("Game Change") from a screenplay by John McNamara ("Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer").

Kelsey Grammer The Expendables 3
Kelsey Grammer ("Boss", "Frasier") has joined the cast of "The Expendables 3". Grammer will star as Bonaparte, an ex-mercenary who aids the titular aging heroes in their mission. Initially the role was rumored to be played by Nicolas Cage, but apparently negotiations fell through. "The Expendables 3" is directed by Patrick Hughes and it stars Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Wesley Snipes. The film opens in theaters on August 15, 2014.. Kelsey Grammer will also star in Michael Bay's "Transformers: Age of Extinction".

Aaron Eckhart Exorcist

Aaron Eckhart ("The Dark Knight") will star in the exorcism horror "Incarnate" which will be produced by Jason Blum ("Insidious", "The Purge") and directed by Brad Peyton ("Jouney 2: The Mysterious Island") from a screenplay by Ronnie Christensen ("Passengers"). Eckhart will star as "an unconventional exorcist who can tap into the subconscious of the possessed". Filming begins in October.

Garrett Hedlund Photo
Angelina Jolie Directs WWII Movie

Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy") has signed on to star in Angelina Jolie's next directorial project. The film will be based on non-fiction book written by Lauren Hillenbrand which tells the true story of Louis Zamperini, a WWII bomber pilot whose plane crashed at sea in 1943. Zamperini and two collegues floated adrift for 47 days and were eventually picked up by Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp and endured severe tortures. Jack O'Connell ("300: Rise of an Empire") will star as Zamperini, while Hedlund will play one of Zamperini's collegues, Commander John Fitzgerald. Angelina Jolie is working with some impressive talents here. The most recent draft of the script was written by Joel and Ethan Coen and the cinematography will be handled by Roger Deakins ("Skyfall", "No Country for Old Men"). The release date has been scheduled for December 25, 2014.

The Expendables Sylvester Stallone

Lionsgate has announced that "The Expendables 3" has commenced principal photography in Bulgaria through an official press release which also offers some definitive details about the production. As previously announced, Mel Gibson will star as the villain, an old partner of Barney Ross' (Sylvester Stallone) who seeks revenge. The press release also confirms the presence of franchise newcomers Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz and Ronda Rousey. But, there's no mention of other big names like Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich and Mickey Rourke, who were reported to be on board. Anyway, "The Expendables 3" opens on August 15, 2014. Until then, here is the official press release:
"SANTA MONICA, CA (August 19, 2013) – Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) and Millennium Films will begin principal photography today on THE EXPENDABLES 3, the third installment of THE EXPENDABLES action-thriller franchise, with production shooting on location in Bulgaria and at Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 will feature Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to their roles in the first two films with Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford joining the all-star cast along with Kellan Lutz, MMA star Ronda Rousey, welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell.

Patrick Hughes (RED HILL) will direct the film, with veteran Dan Bradley (The BOURNE franchise; MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL, QUANTUM OF SOLACE) directing the second unit. THE EXPENDABLES 3 is written by Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt, who previously teamed on OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, and Sylvester Stallone. Avi Lerner, Kevin King-Templeton, Danny Lerner and Les Weldon are producing THE EXPENDABLES 3. Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and John Thompson are executive producing. Lionsgate will release THE EXPENDABLES 3 in North America and the UK on August 15, 2014.

In THE EXPENDABLES 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

The production will be overseen by Lionsgate’s Jason Constantine and Eda Kowan.

The first two installments of THE EXPENDABLES have grossed nearly $600 million in combined global box office."

"Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper will replace Ben Affleck as the writer and director of the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand". Affleck was forced to drop out after Warner Bros. announced that he would star as Batman in the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel. The feature film adaptation has been in production for over two years. At one point, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" director David Yates was interested in taking over the project. King's novel has been adapted once before in 1994 as a TV mini-series. This is probably one of the major issues that the big screen version must overcome: the length. Read a review of the TV movie here.

Rambo lives again. Although rumors about a fifth movie in the franchise have been floating around since 2008's "Rambo", it seems that the fierce warrior will return in a TV series which will be produced by Entertainment One and Nu Image. Sylvester Stallone will not be involved in this new series according to his reps:
"While a television series based on the Rambo property is in development with Entertainment One and Nu Image, contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone will certainly not reprise his role as the iconic John Rambo for the small screen."

Last year's surprise-hit action film "Act of Valor" will get a sequel. The new film will focus on a team of elite SWAT officers. Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh will return to produce the sequel and Scott Wiper ("The Condemned") will write and direct. It's safe to assume that "Act of Valor 2" will continue the trend set by the first film of casting real-life operatives and shoot in a realistic manner.

She will star as Hildy Good, a New England realtor and alcoholic who strikes up a relationship with an old flame (Robert De Niro). The screenplay will be penned by Michael Cunningham ("The Hours"). Here is the film's official synopsis:
"The Good House is a wickedly funny look at denial, told through the eyes of Hildy Good (Streep), a New England realtor and not-so-recovering alcoholic whose perfectly compartmentalized life starts to come apart at the seams when she forms a new friendship with Rebecca McCallister. As Rebecca becomes the subject of town gossip, Hildy rekindles an old flame with Frank Getchell (De Niro), a tell it like it is Yankee, who tries to uncomplicate her complicated life in this darkly comic and strikingly authentic tale."

Ronda Rousey
UFC/Strikeforce champion Ronda Rousey is in talks to join the cast of director James Wan's "Fast & Furious 7". No other casting announcements have been made for FF7 and no plot details have been released, but it is expected that most of the franchise's cast members will return, including Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Ronda Rousey has also been cast in "The Expendables 3" and she will shoot both films back to back in order to finish in time to meet the time needed to focus on training for her next fight, a championship rematch on December 28th with Mischa Tate.

Henry Cavill
Hugh Grant
Elizabeth Debicki

The big-screen adaptation of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." has been undergoing some serious casting operations. After Tom Cruise dropped out of the film, he was replaced by Henry Cavill ("Man of Steel"). Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Debicki ("The Great Gatsby") have also joined the cast recently. The film centers on two agents, Napoleon Solo (Cavill) and Illya Kullyakin (Armie Hammer), who work for the United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.). Together they fight against evil forces determined to dominate the world, specifically the terrorist organization known as THRUSH. Grant will play the head of British Naval Intelligence and Debicki will star as a dangerous femme fatale. Alicia Vikander is set to play the female lead, "a British agent with a thing for cars". The film is directed by Guy Ritchie ("Sherlock Holmes").

The Expendables Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone has found a director for "The Expendables 3". The chosen one is newcomer Patrick Hughes, who broke out as a filmmaker with the modern western thriller "Red Hill". The third installment in the action franchise will once again star a number of veteran action stars and the new cast additions include Wesley Snipes and possibly Jackie Chan, if Stallone can convince the latter to join.

Scarlett Johansson Scarlett Johansson will star in Luc Besson's new action thriller "Lucy". Johansson will star as "a woman who is forced to become a drug mule. But the drug instead goes into her system, transforming her into an ass-kicking machine. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can’t feel pain and other discomforts.". The actress is currently filming "Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier", and the Besson flick will be next after work is done on the Marvel sequel.

Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf will star as a father and son spy team in "Spy's Kid". The film will most likely be directed by D.J. Caruso ("Disturbia"), who is currently in talks with Paramount, and is based on the true story of a convicted CIA veteran who, while in prison, used his son to continue his work.

Daredevil Marvel StudiosMarvel Studios in now in control of all future adaptations of the "Daredevil" comics. The rights were previously owned by 20th Century Fox who made a first attempt in 2003 with Ben Affleck in the lead role, but the film was not a huge hit and received plenty of harsh reviews, so the studio was left trying to figure out how to reboot the franchise. Several directors were called upon in the last two years to bring Daredevil back, but all deals ultimately fell through. Fox was faced with the contractual deadline of having to deliver a new big screen adaptation, or forfeit the rights back to Marvel. Since they couldn't meet the deadline, they lost the rights. Maybe it's for the best. Marvel has a much better track record with films they produce, which includes the awesome hit "The Avengers" as well as "Thor", "Iron Man" and "Captain America".
