Tulsa King Spinoff Starring Samuel L Jackson Changes Location And Title

Taylor Sheridan's upcoming "Tulsa King" spinoff is moving its setting from New Orleans to Frisco, Texas, which is why the title will be changed from "NOLA King" to "Frisco King". The creative shakeup also involved the departure of writer and showrunner Dave Erickson in July. Erickson penned the script for the pilot episode. Sheridan will now be writing all eight episodes. Samuel L. Jackson stars in the lead role as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a character that was first introduced in the third season of "Tulsa King".

So far, the show still doesn't have a showrunner, and it's possible to begin production without one. Casting is currently underway, and filming is expected to begin late March in Fort Worth, Texas where Sheridan and his collaborator David C. Glasser opened a production campus last year with backing from Paramount.

Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios had this to say: "We are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of Frisco King and bring to life Samuel L. Jackson's iconic character. Having him pen all episodes of the season with his singular voice will be a treat for fans of Tulsa King and audiences around the world."

Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+ added: "Taylor Sheridan continues to build worlds that attract some of the most iconic talent working today, and Frisco King is no exception. Having Samuel L. Jackson step into this universe is a testament to the scale and ambition of the storytelling Taylor is crafting. We're thrilled to expand this storyline with such a powerhouse creative team and cast on Paramount+".

"Frisco King" is Sheridan's first new series to go into production under the new leadership at Paramount+ and Paramount TV Studios, which is his studio home until he departs for NBCUniversal in January, 2029.

Produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, "Frisco King" is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone, and Samuel L. Jackson. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Christina Alexandra Voros, Michael Friedman, LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Keith Cox also executive produce.

Sylvester Stallone Cole Hauser Las Vegas Series Blood Aces

Sylvester Stallone's production company Balboa Productions, and "Yellowstone" star Cole Hauser's American Outlaw Entertainment are teaming up with MGM Television for a series adaptation of the non-fiction book "Blood Aces: The Wild Ride of Benny Binion, the Texas Gangster Who Created Vegas Poker" by Doug J. Swanson. Hauser is also set to play Binion.

Published in 2014, the book chronicles the explosive rise of Benny Binion from a Fort Worth, TX hustler to the ruthless, larger-than-life mastermind who redefined Vegas and the worlds of poker and rodeo. The show has been described as a gritty, character-driven prestige series that will capture his unapologetically bold style, from violently outsmarting rivals to building a family empire and bending the law to his will.

Stallone said in a statement: "Douglas J. Swanson's book captures the incredible life of Benny Binion, a New West icon who was a conduit connecting many worlds, some glamorous, some dangerous, some shady, but all intriguing, while helping to build the foundation for both Las Vegas as we know it and the explosive worldwide popularity of poker. This is a story that will captivate audiences, and it's a role made for Cole Hauser to play. I am proud and excited to partner with Cole to bring this story to life."

Hauser added: "Benny Binion is one of the great Western American characters and success stories of the 20th century, loaded with ambition, vision, balls, and like all controversial characters, many flaws. His legacy is undeniable. How he built it is an incredible story which we can't wait to tell. It's a privilege to play him and an honor to produce this with Sylvester Stallone and MGM to bring this incredible story to life."

Stallone and D. Matt Geller will executive produce for Balboa Productions alongside Hauser and Randall Batinkoff for American Outlaw Entertainment, and Jai Stefan. Producers are currently meeting with top-tier showrunners for the project.

MGM Television's Head of Scripted Series, Lindsay Sloane had this to say about the show: "Benny Binion’s story is a sweeping American saga of ambition, risk, and reinvention, set against the mythic backdrop of a rapidly evolving Las Vegas. With Sylvester Stallone and Cole Hauser at the helm, this project brings together bold, cinematic storytelling and a deeply compelling central performance to explore the origins of modern poker and the high-stakes world that shaped it. We're thrilled to partner with such an exceptional creative team to deliver a prestige drama that is as gripping and unpredictable as the man at its center."

Hauser can next be seen in the "Yellowstone" spinoff "The Dutton Ranch". He is also set to star alongside Matthew McConaughey in an upcoming football drama from Skydance and writer Nic Pizzolatto ("True Detective"), which Netflix acquired in a heated bidding war.

Stallone is currently shooting the fourth season of his Paramount+ series "Tulsa King", and he's also producing Amazon MGM's untitled Mike Thornton biographical action thriller directed by Patrick Hughes and starring Alan Ritchson.

Matt Dillon Annasophia Robb To Star In I Play Rocky.jph

Oscar nominee Matt Dillon ("Crash", "There's Something About Mary") and AnnaSophia Robb have joined the cast of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios biopic "I Play Rock", which tells the story of how the iconic boxing movie was made. The film is directed by Peter Farrelly ("Green Book") from a script by Peter Gamble.

Dillon is set to play Frank Stallone Sr., father of Sylvester Stallone. Anthony Ippolito stars as a young Sylvester, while Stephan James has signed on to play Carl Weathers. Robb will star as Stallone's first wife, Sasha Czack.

The film has been described as an electrifying true story about an unknown actor with an unshakable belief that he wasn't just meant to write Rocky — he was meant to be Rocky Balboa. Told no at every turn, Stallone bets everything on himself, holding the line on playing the lead against seemingly impossible odds. The result is the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie.

Immigrating to the U.S. from Italy as a teenager, Stallone Sr. was a hairdresser who in the course of his life wound up opening a series of barber shops, salons and beauty schools across the East Coast. As recounted in the 2023 Netflix documentary "Sly", Stallone Sr. was a complicated man — hardworking and charismatic, but at the same time both physically and emotionally abusive to his son. Stallone nonetheless sought his father's approval throughout his life, including through his art. He arranged for him to make a cameo in 1976's Rocky, as a timekeeper.

Toby Emmerich and Christian Baha are producing. FilmNation Entertainment handles production services and international sales. The film will be released in theaters.
