Weekend Box Office: HOPPERS Conquers Second Frame While REMINDERS OF HIM and UNDERTONE Overperform

Weekend Box Office Hoppers Reminders Of Him Undertone

The box office has been doing much better this past weekend than it was during the same frame in 2025 when "Novocaine" topped the charts. Sure, it's nowhere near the heights of pre-pandemic box office, but it's definitely a breath of fresh air for theaters. Pixar's "Hoppers" is holding its ground in first place after a solid debut, and this week's new releases, the Colleen Hoover adaptation "Reminders of Him" and the horror film "Undertone", both performed better than expected.

Read more about the weekend box office after the jump.

Pixar's new animated feature "Hoppers" dropped only 36.8% in its second weekend, holding in first place with $28.6 million. The film has now grossed a total of $86.9 million in North America, and another $78 million from foreign markets. That's a worldwide total of $165 million against a budget of $150 million. It still has a long way to go before turning a profit, which is probably somewhere north of the $300 million mark globally, but it's definitely a great start.

The romantic drama "Reminders of Him" opened in second place with $17.9 million from 3,402 theaters. In terms of Colleen Hoover adaptations, it's better than last year's "Regretting You", which opened with $13.6 million, but still less than "It Ends WIth Us", which scored a $50 million debut in 2024. Overseas, the film adds another $10 million for a global tally of $27.9 million against a $25 million budget. Unfortunately, word-of-mouth probably won't help this one much, as critics and moviegoers were mixed on it (56% on Rotten Tomatoes and "B" CinemaScore).

A24's horror film "Undertone" made its debut at #3 with $9.3 million from 2,570 theaters. The film cost only $500,000 to produce. Critics liked the film (74% on Rotten Tomatoes), but moviegoers didn't ("C" CinemaScore), so no word-of-mouth boost for this one, but given the very low budget it won't really matter as it's already turning a profit.

"Scream 7" finished its third weekend in fourth place with $8.5 million, down 49.9% from its sophomore weekend. The sequel has now grossed a total of $106.7 million domestically and another $70.4 million from international markets, which adds up to $177.1 million against a $45 million budget.

The Top 5 is rounded out by Sony's animated film "GOAT" with $4.6 million, a 27.8% decline in its fifth weekend. The film's domestic tally is now at $90.5 million. With another $72.2 million from overseas markets, the film's worldwide cume has reached $162.7 million. Given the film's $90 million budget, it would need to make around $200 million to break even, so "GOAT" is far from being a hit.

In other news, the 4K restoration re-release of the anime "Kiki's Delivery Service" opened in seventh place with $1.6 million from 249 IMAX theaters. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze" was also re-released in 1,372 theaters and grossed $1.47 million, finishing in ninth place.
