Oscar winner Tom McCarthy ("Spotlight") is rounding out the cast for his new film, which now includes Golden Globe nominee Paul Rudd ("Ant-Man"), Golden Globe winner Evan Peters ("American Horror Story"), Oscar nominees Amy Ryan ("The Wire", "Birdman") and Paul Giamatti ("Sideways", "The Holdovers"), Emmy winners John Turturro ("Severance") and Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black"), and SAG's Actor Award nominee Jason Clarke ("Murdaugh: Death in the Family", "Oppenheimer").
The untitled project has been described as a "darkly comic drama" based on Nathaniel Rich's book "Losing Earth", which tells a true story set at a beachside resort in Florida in 1980, when twenty experts gather for a weekend conference on a global issue that is starting to gain traction: the effects of Co2 emissions on the climate. The group of scientists, activists, and policymakers had one simple mandate from Congress — write a statement about what to do, which, as it turns out, was easier said than done.
The screenplay is written by Thomas Bidegan, Noé Debré, and McCarthy. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck executive produce the film, which is dedicated to the late Steve Golin. The production features the talents of director of photography Stuart Dryburgh ("The Piano"), production designer John Goldsmith ("A Most Violent Year"), costume designer Melissa Toth ("Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind"), editor Jane Rizzo ("Succession"), and casting director Allison Estrin ("Billions").
The film is produced by Jonathan King, David Levine, Jonathan Schwartz, Bard Dorros & Nick Shumaker for Anonymous Content, Jim Whitaker, Rae Baron, & McCarthy for Slow Pony, and Mary Aloe of Aloe Entertainment.
Executive producers include Alex Gibney, Wendy Schmidt, Richard Perello, and Robert Kessel for Jigsaw Productions; Damon and Affleck for Artists Equity; Jeremy Strong, Alex Lebovici for Hammerstone Studios; Thomas Bidegan, Noé Debré, and Nathaniel Rich; Billy James Parrott, Laurene Powell Jobs and Davis Guggenheim for Concordia; Andrew Lauren & Blye Faust on behalf of Andrew Lauren Productions; Rob Rosenheck for Galisteo Media.
