Billie Eilish to Make Film Acting Debut In Sarah Polley's THE BELL JAR

Billie Eilish to Make Film Acting Debut In Sarah Polley's THE BELL JAR
Ten-time Grammy winner Billie Eilish is set to make her film acting debut in the upcoming film adaptation of American writer and poet Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar" which will be written and directed by Academy Award winner Sarah Polley ("Women Talking"). Eilish is also a two-time Oscar winner for the original songs from "Barbie" and "No Time to Die", which she co-wrote with her brother Finneas.

"The Bell Jar", which is the only novel written by Plath, is a semi-autobiographical story that chronicles a young woman's descent into mental illness amid the stifling societal expectations for women in the 1950s. Published under a pseudonym in 1963 shortly before Plath's suicide, it has been hailed as a literary classic, and Eilish has reportedly been a long-time fan of the book.

Focus Features is developing the proejct, which is produced by Joy Gorman Wettels ("Little House on the Prairie", "13 Reasons Why"), Plan B Entertainment and Studiocanal. Gorman Wettels originated the project through her company Joy Coalition, packaging the project with Eilish and Polley and partnering with Plan B and StudioCanal before Focus boarded.

Eilish previously made her acting debut in the Prime Video series "Swarm" co-created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, and her performance earned her the People's Choice Award for TV Performance of the Year and an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series. Eilish will also co-direct the upcoming concert tour documentary "Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour" alongside James Cameron ("Avatar").
