Sony's animated film "GOAT" successfully stood its ground against Warner Bros' R-rated period romance "Wuthering Heights" and knocked it off the top spot, reversing places after just one week in theaters. Meanwhile, new releases that included the faith-based biopic "I Can Only Imagine 2" and the darkly comic thriller "How to Make a Killing" starring Glen Powell performed below expectations. Baz Luhrmann's concert film "EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert", however, performed very well in limited release. The slaher horror film "Psycho Killer" opened outside the Top 10.

Last week's #2 movie "GOAT" moved into first place in its sophomore weekend with $16.8 million, after dropping just 38%. The film has grossed $58.1 million domestically, so far, and another $44 million, which adds up to a total of $102.1 million worldwide. The film's budget is estimated at $90 million. Still a long way to go before breaking even.
After dominating the box-office in its debut, "Wuthering Heights" dropped to second place in its second frame with $14 million. That's a steep 57.3% drop, as the film continues to underperform. Domestically, it has raked in $59.8 million, but internationally it's doing much better, adding another $92.3 million for a global cume of $152.1 million against a $80 million budget. If it keeps this pace up, it should at least be able to recoup its budget and marketing costs in a week or two. But it won't make much of a profit.
The faith-based biographical sequel "I Can Only Imagine 2" opened in third place with $7.7 million from 3,105 theaters. It's not a great start, especially considering the first film opened with $17.1 million in 2018 and went on to gross $83.4 million domestically. Overseas earnings for these kinds of films are usually negligible. At least it's not an expensive movie, with a reported budget of around $18 million, but it would still need around $30 million to break even. The film received mixed reviews from critics (61% on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences enjoyed it ("A+" CinemaScore).
The heist thriller "Crime 101" is not doing well at all. After a weak debut last week, in its sophomore weekend it dropped 61.4% and grossed only $5.5 million, which brings its domestic total to $24.4 million. Internationally it adds only $21.4 million for a global total of $45.8 million against a $90 million budget. Amazon MGM Studios will definitely take a loss on this one.
The Top 5 is rounded out by Sam Raimi's "Send Help" with $4.4 million. The movie dropped 50.5% in its fourth weekend and has now grossed a total of $55.4 million in North America, and another $27.5 million from foreign markets. That's a worldwide total of $82.9 million against a $40 million budget. Solid performance for a genre flick.
The black comedy thriller "How to Make a Killing" stubmled in its debut, finishing in sixth place with $3.5 million from 1,625 theaters. Another misstep for Glen Powell following "The Running Man" debacle last November. The film cost $15 million to produce. Reviews for the film were mixed-to-negative (46% on Rotten Tomatoes).
In seventh place we find the concert film "EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert" directed by Baz Luhrmann, which opened with $3.2 million from only 325 theaters. The follow-up to Luhrmann's biopic "Elvis" was released exclusively in IMAX theaters for one week. It will be released on normal screens on February 27th. Overseas it grossed another $2 million. The documentary had a budget of $11 million.
In other news, the R-rated horror thriller "Psycho Killer" made its debut outside the Top 10 with $1.6 million from 1,100 theaters. It cost less than $10 million to produce. The film was mauled by critics (10% on Rotten Tomatoes).
