Weekend Box Office: HOPPERS Scores Pixar's Biggest Opening Since COCO

While "Scream 7" suffered a catastrophic drop in its sophomore weekend, Pixar deftly swooped in to claim the top spot with the studio's best opening for an original movie since 2017's "Coco". Meanwhile, Maggie Gyllenhaal's sophomore directorial project "The Bride!" starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale tanked.

Weekend Box Office: SCREAM 7 Scores Record-Breaking Debut

Despite all the behind-the-scenes drama, the slasher horror sequel "Scream 7" scored a franchise-best debut that effortlessly dominated the box office. Without any other major new releases in theaters, the concert film "Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined" and the newly expanded documentary "EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert" round out the Top 5.

Weekend Box Office: GOAT Takes Down WUTHERING HEIGHTS

Sony's animated film "GOAT" successfully stood its ground against Warner Bros' R-rated period romance "Wuthering Heights" and knocked it off the top spot, reversing places after just one week in theaters. Meanwhile, new releases that included the faith-based biopic "I Can Only Imagine 2" and the darkly comic thriller "How to Make a Killing" starring Glen Powell performed below expectations. Baz Luhrmann's concert film "EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert", however, performed very well in limited release. The slaher horror film "Psycho Killer" opened outside the Top 10.

Weekend Box Office: WUTHERING HEIGHTS Conquers Crowded Valentine's Day + President's Day Weekend

The Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend was certainly a busy one, with no less than five new wide and semi-wide releases joining previous holdovers in the battle for box office supremacy. While it was a great improvement overall compared to the previous weekend, box office revenue is still down compared to the same frame in 2025 when "Captain America: Brave New World" provided a significant boost.

The new "Wuthering Heights" adaptation starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi topped the charts, while the animated film "GOAT" came in second, and the crime thriller "Crime 101" opened in third. The numbers, overall, weren't as impressive as initially predicted for either film. Meanwhile, Gore Verbinski's "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die" and the horror comedy "Cold Storage" had a tougher time finding their audience. The latter didn't even make the Top 10.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi to Star in Emerald Fennell's WUTHERING HEIGHTS Movie

Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie ("Barbie") and BAFTA nominee Jacob Elordi ("Priscilla", "Saltburn") are set to star as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff in the upcoming "Wuthering Heights" adaptation written, directed and produced by Emerald Fennell ("Promising Young Woman", "Saltburn"). First published in 1847, the book centers on the tempestuous relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff that encompasses passion and revenge after they meet while living at the eponymous residence.

The film is in pre-production, and will begin filming in 2025 in the UK. Fennell announced her plans to adapt Emily Bronte's classic romance novel as her third feature in July, posting a surprise announcement to social media with a graphic that reads, "Be with me always – Take any form – Drive me mad" a line from the novel. At the time, all that was known about the project was that the filmmaker would reteam with MRC, the studio behind "Saltburn".

Robbie is next set to star in Kogonada's "A Big Bold Beautiful Journey" opposite Colin Farrell, due out May 2025. Elordi is also set to star in the Prime Video series "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" directed by Justin Kurzel, and Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein".
