James Wan To Direct Remake Of South Korean Action Thriller The Gangster The Cop The Devil

"The Conjuring" and "Saw" filmmaker James Wan has signed on to direct Paramount Pictures' upcoming English-language remake of the the 2019 critically acclaimed Korean crime action thriller "The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil". The original film's star Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok) is set to reprise his lead role.

The original film focused on a fierce and feared gang boss Jang Dong-su (Lee), who barely survives a violent attack by an elusive serial killer and ends up forming an unlikely partnership with a local detective to catch the sadistic criminal simply known as "K". The original film was written and directed by Lee Won-tae ("The Devil's Deal", "Man of Will"), and also starred Kim Mu-yeol, Kim Sungkyu, Yoo Seung-mok and Choi Min-cheol.

Oscar-winning writer Brian Helgeland ("LA Confidential", "Mystic River") penned the original draft of the screenplay and will serve as an executive producer. The final draft belongs to Shay Hatten ("Resident Evil"). Wan will produce the film with Michael Clear for his company, Atomic Monster. Don Lee is also producing, via Big Punch Global, alongside Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller, via Balboa Productions, Chris Lee, via B&C Group, and Jang Won-seok, CEO of BA Entertainment.
