Emmy and Golden Globe-winning "Adolescence" star Erin Doherty has signed on to star in Warner Bros' new untitled romantic comedy written and directed by Nancy Meyers ("Father of the Bride", "The Parent Trap", "The Holiday"). This will be Meyers' first directorial project in 11 years, her last being 2015's "The Intern". Warner Bros picked it up after Netflix shelved the project in 2023 due to budgetary concerns. The release date is set for December 25, 2027.
Plot details have not been revealed, but it is rumored to be about a filmmaker and producer who were once romantic and creative partners who reunite years after their breakup to make a new movie together, navigating their complicated relationship while dealing with volatile stars on their high-stakes production. The ensemble cast also includes Penelope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law and Owen Wilson. Doherty takes over the role Emma Mackey was set for before departing in February due to a scheduling conflict.
In a 2023 Instagram post, Meyers described the film, which at the time was titled "Paris Paramount", as being about "a group of people making a film and the magic and mystery of what we do". Meyers is also producing alongside Ilona Herzberg. Diana Pokorny executive produces for Warner Bros.
Doherty also stars in te new BBC drama series "California Avenue" alongside Bill Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Burke.
