Scarlett Johansson has signed on to star in the new film from "Hereditary" and "Midsommar" filmmaker Ari Aster, which will be titled "Scapegoat". Aster is directing from a script he penned, and A24 is set to distribute the film. This is the studio's fifth collaboration with Aster.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. The film will be produced by Aster and his partner Lars Knudsen through their Square Peg banner. Johnasson was the filmmaker's top choice to lead his film, which he has spent the end of last year writing.
Johansson is also set to star in the new "Exorcist" film at Universal, and Matt Reeves' "The Batman Part II". According to sources, after reading the script, Johansson was all in on starring in the film and producers were on board for a shoot later this year to accommodate her busy schedule. Johansson recently made her directorial debut with the Sony Pictures Classics drama "Eleanor the Great", and can next be seen in James Gray's "Paper Tiger" opposite Miles Teller and Adam Driver, which will premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
