Oscar winner Brendan Fraser has signed on to star in the sci-fi thriller "Starman" directed by Emmy-winning writer/director Josh Wakely ("Beat Bugs") from his original screenplay. Production is expected to begin this summer with Sherif and Graves financing the movie. Anton will launch sales at the Marché du Film de Cannes, where it will unveil exclusive information about the project.
Fraser will star as visionary technologist Tom Adams, an architect of the future, who launches a historic expedition to Mars, positioning himself at the forefront of humanity's next frontier. But when unforeseen events find him millions of miles from Earth, his mission becomes an unexpected and urgent race against time, driven not by survival alone but by love.
Producers include Eddie Vaisman ("Rental Family") of Sight Unseen, alongside Wakely and Rebecca Graham via Grace: A Storytelling Company. "The Dark Knight trilogy co-writer David S. Goyer will executive produce alongsire Tarek Sherif, Ryan Graves and Sight Unseen's Julia Lebedev.
Fraser can next be seen in Focus Features' historical drama "Pressure", which opens in theaters on May 29th, and Andy Garcia' "Diamond" opposite Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray, which will make its world premiere at Cannes. He is also set to reprise his iconic role in the upcoming fourth installment of "The Mummy" alongside Rachel Weisz.
