Brendan Fraser to Star Opposite Andrew Scott in World War II D-Day Thriller PRESSURE
Oscar winner Brendan Fraser ("The Whale") has signed on to star as Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower in the upcoming historical thriller "Pressure" from Working Title and Studiocanal. The film will be directed by Anthony Maras ("Hotel Mumbai") from a script co-written by Maras and David Haig, based on Haig's own play. Production is expected to begin in the UK this September.

THe film chronicles the true story of Britain's Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg, played in the movie by BAFTA winner Andrew Scott ("Ripley", "All of Us Strangers"), whose job it was to inform Eisenhower of weather conditions that would make or break their Normandy invasion. The complex decision-making was critical in the fate of the war and the course of history.

Here is the play's official synopsis:
"In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather. Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest-ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance."

Chris Evans Anya Taylor Joy Salma Hayek Brendan Fraser To Star In Romain Gavras Sacrifice

Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek Pinault and Brendan Fraser are set to star in the upcoming film "Sacrifice" directed by Romain Gavras ("Athena"), son of acclaimed filmmaker Costa Gavras ("Z", "Missing"), who is making his first English-language film. More actors are expected to be cast shortly.

The script is penned by Gavras and Will Arbery. The film will focus on a high end charity gala that gets raided by a violent group of radicals on a mystical quest to fulfill a prophecy. Taylor-Joy will star as the passionate antagonist, while Evans will play the movie star she has tapped to die, along with the two others.

Filming is expected to begin in September. Iconoclast and Robert Walak, the president of Iconoclast's Film and TV division, will produce with Gavras. Taylor-Joy and Evans also produce, with Arbery as executive producer.

Here's what Gavras had to say about the project:
"It came from a very simple idea, which is every time you go to those events, whether it’s in Cannes, whether it's a charity event and where you have all those people, the mischievous side of me, and I think the audience as well when they're watching those events, they kind of want something to go really horribly wrong. When you see glitzy people and all the shininess and all that stuff, you want that moment to be twisted, right? I was raised myself on Greek mythology, instead of being fed new movies when I was a kid, my parents were telling me these Greek tales, where a mom eats her kids and of sacrifices to volcanoes. Those things fed me and led to the idea of having a group of kids that have a very specific agenda that comes from a very mythological kind of belief system. There is the fondness of satire and Will is amazing at the sharpness of the tone of the characters and the humanity of them. I am so excited by our cast."
