"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" delivered the best opening weekend ever, and "The Odyssey" is still going strong. Both films powered the biggest box office weekend in history. The only new release in theaters was Gregg Araki's erotic comedy thriller "I Want Your Sex" starring Olivia Wilde, Cooper Hoffman and Mason Gooding.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" opened with a massive $360 million from 4,487 theaters, breaking the record for highest-grossing domestic debut of all time, which was previously held by "Avengers: Endgame" ($357 million). The film raked in $169.8 million on Friday, $101.5 million on Saturday, and $88.7 million on Sunday. Overseas, the film grossed another $572 million, which brings its worldwide debut to $932 million. Unfortunately, that falls way short of the global opening weekend record of "Avengers: Endgame" ($1.22 billion). Both the critical and audience reception have been stellar (90% on Rotten Tomatoes and "A" CinemaScore).
Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" took a hit once the new "Spider-Man" movie opened, but not as big as expected. The film finished its third weekend in second place with $51 million, which is a decent 43.3% drop. The film's domestic total is now at $395.5 million, while overseas it raked in $516.8 million, bringing its global tally to $912.3 million against a $250 million budget. It should cross the $1 billion mark next weekend.
Now in its seventh weekend, Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story 5" finished in fourth place with $6.7 million, down 33.4% from the previous weekend. The film has now grossed a total of $462.1 million domestically and $604.8 million internationally. That adds up to $1.06 billion worldwide against a $250 million budget.
Illumination's "Minions & Monsters", now in its fifth weekend, has finished in fourth place with $6 million. That's a soft 38.4% decline. The film has now grossed $168.5 million in North America, and another $280.7 million from foreign markets. Worldwide cume is $449.3 million against an $85 million budget.
The Top 5 is rounded out by Disney's live action remake "Moana" with $5.6 million in its fourth weekend, which is a 47% drop from last week. The film is still a massive flop, grossing only $115 million domestically and $146.6 million overseas. That's a global total of $261.7 million against a $250 million budget, and the movie need at least $500 million to break even.
